The CareerAir
Police were born from the separation of the Army Air Forces from the United
States Army. This formation took all
Military Police who were with the Army Air Corps were assigned to the Air
Force. This separation occurred in
September 1947 yet the creation of the Air Police designation did not occur
until January 1948. The main mission of
the career field is to defend the air base.
The Law Enforcement, Security, Combat Arms, and K-9 Career fields were combined in 1997. With this merger of forces the name of the career field was changed from their respective names to Security Forces. Security Forces troops are trained to perform both Law Enforcement and Security duties which allows for a broader more deployable force.

Security Forces Academy "The Schoolhouse"From AP to SP to SF many have gone through what would eventually become know as the academy. Others were trained via OJT straight out of basic in the early years of the career field. From Camp Gordon to Lackland, our training has a rich history. Not only the tech school but numerous other educational programs have been and remain a part of the Air Police/Security Police /Security Forces Academy. and securing the aircraft assigned to their protection.

Law EnforcementAir
Police, Security Police and Security Forces perform law enforcement duties
similar to the duties performed in civilian law enforcement. Air Police, Security Police and Security
Forces members perform duties such as patrols, traffic stops, bike patrol, issuing

Military Working Dog ProgramMilitary Working Dog teams are the team of the handler and the K-9 officer who is trained for either explosives or drugs detection. There have been many tasks performed and assets protected by the Military Working Dog team. Military Working Dog teams not only serve as a detection but also act as a deterrent. View Pictures >

Combat ArmsCombat
Arms are responsible to ensuring those who carry a firearm are trained to use
the firearm. All CATM instructors are
able to lead and supervise firearms trainings.
The operation of firing ranges to include range safety. CATM is considered the Air Force’s experts in
