M706 "Duck"
The M-706 Cadillac Gage Commando nicknamed "duck" is a 4x4 amphibious armored car built by Cadillac Gage Textron. The vehicle has been outfitted for many roles, including armored personnel carrier, ambulance, fire apparatus, anti-tank vehicle, and mortar carrier.
The XM706E2, was supplied to the U.S. Air Force for base protection purposes, post-attack reconnaissance against munitions and EOD use. The XM706E2 featured no turret and an open-topped center parapet. A variety of weapons were mounted on USAF XM706E2s, but the most common configuration was one .50 BMG-caliber M2HB machine gun and one 7.62 mm NATO M60 machine gun. Other equipment included the XM174 40 mm grenade launcher and searchlights. |
M 113 Armored Personnel Carrier
The M113 is a fully tracked armored personnel carrier that was developed by Food Machinery Corp (FMC). The vehicle was first fielded by the United States Army's mechanized infantry units in Vietnam in April 1962.
The M113 introduced new aluminum armor that made the vehicle much lighter than earlier vehicles; it was thick enough to protect the crew and passengers against small arms fire but light enough that the vehicle was air transportable and moderately amphibious. The USAF used M113 and M113A1 ACAV vehicles in USAF Security Police Squadrons, which provided air base ground defense support in Vietnam. |
Cadillac Gauge Textron Commando Ranger “The Peacekeeper”
Cadillac Gauge Textron developed the Commando Ranger, renamed by the USAF as the “Peacekeeper” after the Security Police that would drive them for over 15 years. The first vehicles were deployed to the missile fields and weapons storage areas for fire team response. Over 700 were in service with the USAF Security Police at one point in their history. By the late 1990's all of the Peacekeepers had been retired from service, replaced by the HMMWV.

M-1008 Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV)
The M-1008 is a Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV pronounced "cuck-vee"), a military modified Chevrolet commercial pick-up truck, based on the General Motors Model K30903 pickup. The CUCVs were an attempt by the U.S. military to use COTS (commercial, off-the-shelf) vehicles with minor modification in non-combat roles. This effort to save money was not very successful and eventually most CUCV units where replaced by the HMMWV.
